After the demise of NCL's Jazz Cruises, Anita embarked upon The Jazz Cruise, which was the world’s first full ship charter devoted solely to jazz music. Targeting the fall of 2001, Anita began her job of selling cabins. The job proved much easier than anticipated. Within months, the first sailing was a sell out on Holland America’s m/s Maasdam (1254 passengers). Proof of the amazing devotion to this form of entertainment is that the first departure date for the cruise was 6 weeks after the tragedy of 9/11. Despite the almost nationwide cessation of travel and concerns for safety, not one passenger cancelled for fear of terrorism.
With an overwhelmingly successful first year in hand, The Jazz Cruise grew year after year, from the m/s Maasdam to the m/s Zaandam (1462 passengers) to its current home on the V Class ships of Holland America, which can hold over 1800 passengers. Each cruise has been a sell out long before sailing date. And despite the increase in the size of the ships, the intimacy remains. 2006 was the first west-coast departure for The Jazz Cruise sailing from San Diego, which was a huge success. In 2007 we returned to our home city departing from Fort Lauderdale on November 11 - 18, cruising the beautiful islands in the Caribbean. This was truly a remarkable experience with the likes of Arturo Sandoval, the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, and many more world-class performers. Our next sailing, in 2008, promises to be the best ever featuring a number of internationally acclaimed stars of the Jazz world.
The Jazz Cruise presents the finest array of "straight ahead" jazz music in the world. Standards, classic jazz and big band music dominate this cruise's program.
