Like other industries and genres, the world of entertainment is built upon customs and mores. One of the most compelling is the commitment of each and every actor, singer, instrumentalist and artist to perform regardless of what may be going on in their lives or how they personally feel. This is our fate and, so, it is with a heavy heart that we move forward with the cruises.

In no way can or should we try to “replace” Wayman. Unless you have another 6’ 9” College, Olympic and NBA superstar, who plays amazing bass guitar, sings and can light up any room with his smile in your back pocket, then you know what I mean. What we can do is what we have always done … present the best lineups possible and engage artists in ways that do not occur in a traditional concert setting.

TRIBUTE TO WAYMAN TISDALE

We, at Jazz Cruises, wish to express our sincere sadness and sorrow at the passing of our leader, Wayman Tisdale. No man had more courage and grace under such serious conditions. We will forever remember his charm, his wit, his skills, his talent and his smile. To Regina and Wayman’s family, we offer our condolences, support and love, forever.

The Smooth Jazz Cruise 2010 will be dedicated to the memory of Wayman and there will be several special events offered to commemorate his life and music.

On a personal note, each time I saw or spoke to Wayman made me happier, a better person and just grateful to be alive. For that, I will never forget him and can never repay him.

LINEUP ADJUSTMENTS
FOR SJC ’10 AND SJC ‘11

By clicking on to www.thesmoothjazzcruise.com, you can see that we have made adjustments to the lineups for both SJC ’10 and SJC ’11. The most obvious are the inclusion of Grammy® Winner Bassist Marcus Miller on both cruises and the drafting of Jonathan Butler and Gerald Albright as event hosts to complement Dave Koz on SJC ’10 and David Sanborn/Marcus Miller on SJC ‘11.

Marcus will be a Special Guest on SJC ’10 and will be the Music Director/Host on SJC ’11 side by side with David Sanborn.  As a performer, writer and producer of great works of jazz music, it will be very special to have Marcus onboard.  Marcus has hosted both the North Sea and Playboy Jazz Cruises.

Jonathan will host and conduct the Gospel Hour on SJC ’10, an event which will serve as our Memorial Service for Wayman.  SJC Gospel Hours shall forever then be known as The Wayman Tisdale Gospel Hour, hosted by Jonathan Butler. Jonathan will also be integrally involved in many of our guest-related events, parties and contests.

Gerald and his lovely wife Glynis will grace our cruises with several events for couples and Gerald will be anointed the official jazz historian for Jazz Cruises.  In that capacity, Gerald will hold seminars and forums geared to enrich our knowledge and understanding of jazz.

The Smooth Jazz Cruise 2010 is “sold out”. There will be two sailings of The Smooth Jazz Cruise 2011 and cabins for those sailings are now on sale.

 

SJC ’10 SOLD OUT; SJC ’11 NOW OPEN FOR RESERVATIONS

SJC ’10 is sold out and there are more than 1,200 names on the Wait List. Currently we are taking reservations for Week 1 (January 9-16, 2011  January 16-23, 2011) of SJC ’11 and guests on SJC ’10 have until July 31, 2009 to rebook their current cabins for Week 2 (January 16-23, 2011  January 23-30, 2011). Book now, as cabins are going fast.

Please note: Any current guest of SJC ’10 desiring to cancel his/her reservation at this time may do so through June 15, 2009, subject only to the Cancellation Fee of $150/person. After that time the customary terms and conditions apply.
