Jazz Cruises Supports the Jazz Industry
A thriving jazz and music community not only benefits Jazz Cruises, but it is in the best interest of all involved. No one company can sustain an industry or support a genre. It takes the hard work and dedication of all involved to keep jazz alive, accessible and active. Jazz has prospered over time due to the support of an adoring public, special private funding and a strong media.
In these harder times, much of the support structure for jazz – endowments, public radio, charitable contributions – are reduced. Record sales are down all over, and the number of live performances is also reduced. However, our cruises have never been more popular! One theory is that the public is starved for the music, and the cruises provide the most cost-effective way to stay in touch and enjoy our wonderful music.
Regardless, it is incumbent upon Jazz Cruises to actively support music organizations, clubs, radio stations, artists and musicians and any other entity or person who promotes jazz.
New Notes Feature To Recognize Friends of Jazz!
In recognition of this duty, Jazz Cruises will now present a Friends of Jazz Cruises section in each and every monthly edition of Jazz Cruises’ Notes, in which we will highlight and discuss people or entities that we endorse and are working with in connection with our program. The Friends of Jazz Cruises feature will also be posted to our various web sites, where you can see each such "friend", obtain their contact information and learn more about their activities and goals.
We think that this will provide you with an array of opportunities to broaden your involvement in our jazz genre and will give you an appreciation of all the ways that jazz has helped to create jobs and businesses and has enriched our community.

Whether you have lost your local smooth jazz radio station to a format flip or not, there is a new way to listen to the music that you love on the radio. SOLACE.FM is an internet radio station playing smooth jazz (C-Jazz). With mobile applications set to become a reality in the very near future, the tethers will be gone. You’ll soon be able to tune in to Solace in your car as easily as you can tune in now on your home computer, anywhere in the world that you may be.
At present, the programming is mostly music. There are plans to bring specialty shows on board in the near future, including Latin Jazz hosted by Maria von Dickersohn, formerly of Sirius Jazz Café, and The Roots of Smooth with Bobby Jackson, formerly of NPR in Cleveland. Solace wants to be your radio station of choice. We gladly welcome you to join our growing family of listeners. Find us at www.solace.fm. C-Jazz for your world.

Since its inception in 1981, Blue Note has become one of the premier jazz clubs in the world and a cultural institution in Greenwich Village. Legendary jazz musicians like Sarah Vaughn, Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Turrentine, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown and Tito Puente all performed here over the years and considered the Blue Note a home away from home. Jazz is undoubtedly America's music, and while Blue Note strives to preserve the history of jazz, the club is a place where progression and innovation - the foundations of the music - are encouraged and practiced on a nightly basis. In addition to the main acts that feature the likes of Chick Corea, McCoy Tyner, Joe Lovano, John Scofield and Chris Botti, Blue Note has introduced the Monday Night Series and the bi-weekly Late Night Groove Series to showcase New York's up-and-coming jazz, soul, hip-hop, R&B and funk artists.
Blue Note has been instrumental in encouraging the development of Greenwich Village's local musicians by giving them a chance to perform in one of the world's finest venues. After 25 years of success, Blue Note continues to carry the torch for jazz into the 21st century in the cultural heart of New York, Greenwich Village. Located between 6th and McDougal St., Blue Note offers music every night at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. On Friday and Saturday nights, Blue Note has a Late Night Groove Series at 12:30 a.m. and offers a Sunday Brunch for $24.50 a person at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. weekly. For reservations, call 212-475-8592, and visit us on the web for a schedule of upcoming performers at www.bluenotejazz.com.
